Being Well Together

 

Being Well Together is a new museum visit itinerary aimed at people with neurodegenerative diseases and their caregivers, created in collaboration with La Meridiana Cooperative. Stare bene insieme is the result of a scientific research project that focuses on the museum inclusivity of the dyad consisting of people with dementia and their caregivers, with the aim of making access to a museum not only appropriate, but also included in a logic of normality of life and daily rhythm. The museum visit takes place independently: it is not a group guided tour, and the dyad can manage their visit according to their own needs and interests. The tours unfold on the two museum floors and are illustrated by guide booklets accompanied by explanatory videos of all works selected in the tours.

 

After a literature study phase and the drafting of the research protocol, the project was presented in November 2023. After involving 12 dyads consisting of people with dementia cared for at La Meridiana Cooperative's facilities and their caregivers, the experimentation phase of the art museum visit routes took place from January to April 2024 for a total of 35 visits.
Working closely with La Meridiana Cooperative, Fondazione Luigi Rovati collected data on the well-being generated by the museum visit, enjoyment of the experience, and feedback on the effectiveness of the proposed visit routes. Subsequent data analysis showed that the experience was positive for both members of the dyad, even creating social moments outside the museum in the relevant groups (the RSA or family community).

 

In recognition of the innovative value of the Being Well Together project, the Alzheimer's Federation Italy awarded the Fondazione Luigi Rovati the “Dementia Friendly” award.
