International Museum Day

Saturday, May 18

Since 1977, the International Council of Museums has been organising the International Museum Day, which explores a different theme each year.

The main themes of the 2024 edition are education and research, fields in which the Fondazione Luigi Rovati has always been engaged.

Museums are dynamic educational centres, promoting curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. In 2024, ICOM recognises the contribution of Museums to research, providing a tool for the exploration and dissemination of new ideas. From art and history to science and technology, Museums are vital spaces where education and research converge to shape our understanding of the world.

Every year since 2020, International Museum Day has supported a set of goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2024 they take centre stage:

Goal 4: Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation.

The Art Museum celebrates 18 May with two initiatives:

A guided tour at 11 a.m. to the exhibitions "Vulci. Goods for Mankind. Goods for Gods" and “Giano-Culsans: the double and the Etruscan inspiration of Gino Severini”. Visitors are taken on a tour of discovery of the ancient Etruscan city of Vulci through its extraordinary handicraft artefacts, in dialogue with the works of contemporary artist Giuseppe Penone, and then move on to the White Space within the close dialogue between the Etruscan bronzes and sculptures of Gino Severini.

Cost €20, including entrance fee. Duration 60 minutes.

A puppet show dedicated to children. In "Vulci Vulci. May the riddle not get in your way!", children are the protagonists: after solving the riddles of the Etruscan sphinx, they will have to find the characters that have escaped from the display cases inside the exhibition.

The show costs 20 euro: the ticket for one child includes admission for one adult.

(8 euros for each additional child). The show lasts 75 minutes and is offered for children between 4 and 10 years of age.
