Convention Gian Francesco Gamurrini
Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October
Gian Francesco Gamurrini
The archaeologist and his legacy 100 years after his death
CITIES AND MUSEUMS OF ETRURIA
The convention presents the national and international work of Gian Francesco Gamurrini, highlighting his commitment from his reserach to his commitment to the conservation and valorisation of cultural heritage. Participating speakers explore Gamurrini's role in the investigation of cities and territories, as well as the foundation and development of museums dedicated to Etruria and its neighbouring territories.
The seminar is part of a series of scientific initiatives aimed at celebrating the centenary of Gian Francesco Gamurrini's death (Arezzo 1835-1923).
"...Gamurrini did not see nor did he want any limits before him: he was interested in everything, involved himself in everything, and wanted to discover everything on his own", Bartolomeo Nogara, General Director of the Pontifical Monuments, Museums and Galleries.
An eclectic scholar, Gian Francesco Gamurrini dedicated his life to archaeology and to defending the cultural heritage of the Arezzo area from the pilfering of speculators and art merchants. He pursued his work as a librarian with the same passion as his work as an archaeologist and guardian of historical and artistic heritage, contributing the growth of a collective consciousness.
Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October 2024.
