Fondazione Luigi Rovati presents the new library dedicated to the late President Emeritus Professor Luigi Rovati one year after his passing.
Renovation and setup works have come to completion at the headquarter in Monza, where the library will be hosted.
Designed according to the most recent operating and archival criteria, the library project is fully consistent with the Foundation’s cultural mission of enhancing research and dissemination, as well as with its first main achievement, i.e. the opening of the Etruscan Museum currently under construction in Milan. This new library is meant to be a reference center for scholars and researchers in the Lombardy region, especially near Milan and Monza, in times when research and study need special support.
In synergy with the forthcoming Etruscan Museum, the core of the library consists of two important and large book collections devoted to archaeology.
The first one was put together by Giovannangelo Camporeale (1933-2017), late President of the Institute for Etruscan and Italic Studies and Lucumon of the Accademia Etrusca of Cortona, and it’s completely focused on Etruscology; the second belonged to Professor Emilio Arrigoni (1939-2020), full professor of Historical Geography for the Ancient World at the University of Milan.
The Foundation will also incorporate the scientific library created during Professor Rovati’s entrepreneurial carrier and the private collection of art books belonging to the founders.
The library will then offer books on History of the landscape, Ancient Topography, Archaeology, History of Religions, papers dealing with Antiquities, Greek and Latin books, volumes on the Geography of the Ancient World, relevant collections such as the Corpus Speculorum Etruscorum, Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum And specialized magazines, as well as art volumes with a focus on contemporary arts.
This new space will feature a large and welcoming study room equipped with computers. The whole catalogue will be accessible online, and the Foundation is currently digitizing the vast collection of books and magazines extracts to enhance fruition.
Instructions on how to access the library and the relevant safety measures will be disclosed on occasion of the opening in 2022.
